Failure to Launch.

Have you seen the movie “Failure to Launch”? It was screened last year. I just watched it. If you have not watched it, I think you should. Let me tell you why...

The title of the show seems to suggest its some sci-fi flick, probably involving some rocket launch that gone bad. Apollo-13 sorta thing? No! Of cuz not... I am recommending it cuz its a nice show and partially due to the fact that I am a sucker for good romance comedy on any day.

Well as explained in the show, "failure to launch" is a term used to describe grown men who still live with their parents tho' they should have moved out, get married, set up their families or something. I suppose its western culture. Over here, these men are very filial sons!

Anyway, this show has a simple plot. Yes, good romance comedy should have simple plot. Lady hired to date guy so that he would move out. Guy fell in love at first sight. Perfect match. Lady fell in love for real. Big-mouth loser friends found out. Jackass guy with big ego pissed and dumped lady. Friends and family tried to bring them back together and ... Well I will leave the rest for you to find out. Don't wanna reveal the entire plot eh. Heh heh.

Anyway, simple plot is good, that's where the romantic and heart warming elements come in. That's what I love about romantic comedies! It's the things they do, the words they say, the appreciation of finer things in life, that deeply draw the viewers into their world. Both guys and gals should watch. Understand how to win a guy's heart. Its not sex. Understand how to win a gal's heart. Its not money. I must admit, lotsa nice things the show portrayed ain't quite affordable for us, eg. wine and boat, but the idea is there. You gotta see for yourself to get what I mean. There is always a sorta equivalent to achieve the same effect. And not every romantic gesture means digging deep into your pockets.

Finally, I suspect that another major reason why I like the show is the gorgeous Sarah Jessica Parker. Go watch it! Erm, the dvd or something... =p

The Bridal Dowry.

The delivery of dowry ( 送嫁妆 ) is another important custom. It represents parent's effort for her daughter to have a good life after marriage and prepare her with the necessities for being a good wife. I am amazed by some of the things included in the dowry. Of course, in our modern living, we will not be using some of those things... Nevertheless, I think it is all good to have them, as each item carries a good meaning for our blissful marriage. :-)

If you have it, just flaunt it.

Its such a lousy day, I have decided to blog another entry. Yesh, I am thinking about things other than my last two papers on Thurs and Friday. Something probably talked alot before by many people... What is it with men and women with 可爱-oooii *杨丞琳's voice* face, long tresses, slim legs, curvey body, in revealing tight clothes (only for those with the former characteristics), in pink. Why are men so attracted to those features? The guy is lying if he says he will not turn his head when he sees women with those features. I think it has nothing to do with men being lustful or anything disgusting. It probably has something to do with the genes, the hormones. I don't believe it has to do with things like its men's nature instinct to look for partners who can reproduce blahblahblah. That's so boring! Its something mysterious, something that let men derives pleasure by just looking openly, without doing anything bad or harmful or immoral. Do women ogle at men all the time too...

Saturday Afternoon Routine.

I just got back from the Saturday tuition sessions. It has been almost 5 months since I started.I have two classes of primary school children, P4 and P3, taking Maths and Science, and English, respectively. It has become a Saturday routine. A energy-draining activity. It is somehow different from giving volunteering tuition. When you are paid, the responsibility seems greater. And if you ain't doing a good job, someone else is readily available to take up yours. The fact that I really need that money, I have to put in more effort. Some students have left, and some have joined. I'm not sure whether they left cuz they think I ain't good 'nuff for them. But there are some who seem really happy and appreciative to have me around. On my first lesson, I set the ground rules for my classes. I told them my expectations on their behavior. On boy, how naive I was. They are only nine or ten, they don't understand the significance of those rules. After a couple of lessons with ...
