RSS Reader.

I had been busy adding feeds into my new RSS reader, BlogBridge. Swing Romain Guy had recommended it on his blog.

The user interface is clean and there are some nice features:

1) Highly customizable. The LAF of the application can be changed according to user preferences.

2) New articles. Feeds can be grouped into "Guides" with their own icon on the side bar. The are bar charts on the feeds bar to display the number of articles for each feed in the past week. There are indicators that display the number of unread articles for each guide and feed on their respective bars. Thus at one look, I will know which feed to read, without the need to expanding folders or selecting each feed.

3) Readability. Embedded objects, such as pictures and video can be displayed on the reader itself. I can also choose to display the articles on the default system browser.

4) Subscribing new feeds. It will be good if there is some sort of Firefox plugin to add the feeds or import current bookmarks to BlogBridge. However, it is smart enough to select the last copied URL when you try to subscribe to a new feed. You can also use Smartfeed to dynamically collect the articles that meet the criteria set.

5) Free online backup. BlogBridge also comes with a free backup service for the feeds and settings. This mean that you can retrieve the feeds even when you reinstall the software. In another words, you can synchronize the feeds to any BlogBridge in any machines with your account. Now, you can read the same feeds at home and in office.

Update (11 Dec 06): BlogBridge already has a FireFox Integration.

Other than these features, the coolest thing is that BlogBridge is a Java/Swing Webstart application. And we all love Java rich client right? You should try it too! =)

The Bridal Dowry.

The delivery of dowry ( 送嫁妆 ) is another important custom. It represents parent's effort for her daughter to have a good life after marriage and prepare her with the necessities for being a good wife. I am amazed by some of the things included in the dowry. Of course, in our modern living, we will not be using some of those things... Nevertheless, I think it is all good to have them, as each item carries a good meaning for our blissful marriage. :-)

If you have it, just flaunt it.

Its such a lousy day, I have decided to blog another entry. Yesh, I am thinking about things other than my last two papers on Thurs and Friday. Something probably talked alot before by many people... What is it with men and women with 可爱-oooii *杨丞琳's voice* face, long tresses, slim legs, curvey body, in revealing tight clothes (only for those with the former characteristics), in pink. Why are men so attracted to those features? The guy is lying if he says he will not turn his head when he sees women with those features. I think it has nothing to do with men being lustful or anything disgusting. It probably has something to do with the genes, the hormones. I don't believe it has to do with things like its men's nature instinct to look for partners who can reproduce blahblahblah. That's so boring! Its something mysterious, something that let men derives pleasure by just looking openly, without doing anything bad or harmful or immoral. Do women ogle at men all the time too...

Saturday Afternoon Routine.

I just got back from the Saturday tuition sessions. It has been almost 5 months since I started.I have two classes of primary school children, P4 and P3, taking Maths and Science, and English, respectively. It has become a Saturday routine. A energy-draining activity. It is somehow different from giving volunteering tuition. When you are paid, the responsibility seems greater. And if you ain't doing a good job, someone else is readily available to take up yours. The fact that I really need that money, I have to put in more effort. Some students have left, and some have joined. I'm not sure whether they left cuz they think I ain't good 'nuff for them. But there are some who seem really happy and appreciative to have me around. On my first lesson, I set the ground rules for my classes. I told them my expectations on their behavior. On boy, how naive I was. They are only nine or ten, they don't understand the significance of those rules. After a couple of lessons with ...
