Eragon the Movie.

"Its something like Lord of the Rings..." ??? Really? I thought it was more like another "Dungeons & Dragons". Coincidentally, oh perhaps not so, Jeremy Irons acted in both shows. Instead of many Red Dragons, there was only one. A blue dragon with a sexy voice, like the one in Shrek! Anyway, the strange thing is that I thought D&D movie was so bad, nobody will ever make another movie about dragons. But guess I was wrong.

To be fair, the CG was not bad. The dragon rider, Eragon (Edward Speleers) interacted seamlessly with the dragon, Saphira (voice of Rachel Weisz - yes, the sexy Princess Nefertiri and Ms "Indiana Jones" in "The Mummy Returns").

But these days, which fantasy movie doesn't have great special effects. And tho' the CG might be good, the battle scenes was a far cry from the grand showdowns in LOTR. I supposed it is very unfair to compare any fantasy movies with LOTR.

The movie was adapted from a book. I have not read the book yet. The movie could have more depth in the content. The story was typical - "Good versus Evil, the hero and rebels versus the evil king and his sorcerer lackey". The pace was draggy and yet some details were omitted at times. One second he fought like a weakling, the next he was casting magic. Some lines were corny with words like ... "I like your attitude, one part courage, three parts foolishness" being repeated more than once. The way the dragon rider was romantically attracted to the princess was all too cliche.

Then again, perhaps my movie experience was dampen by the fact that I sat third row from the front, and the uncles beside me who couldn't keep the comments to themselves. =p Overall, Eragon the movie deserves two outta five stars. Watchable. Not like LOTR at all.

The Bridal Dowry.

The delivery of dowry ( 送嫁妆 ) is another important custom. It represents parent's effort for her daughter to have a good life after marriage and prepare her with the necessities for being a good wife. I am amazed by some of the things included in the dowry. Of course, in our modern living, we will not be using some of those things... Nevertheless, I think it is all good to have them, as each item carries a good meaning for our blissful marriage. :-)

If you have it, just flaunt it.

Its such a lousy day, I have decided to blog another entry. Yesh, I am thinking about things other than my last two papers on Thurs and Friday. Something probably talked alot before by many people... What is it with men and women with 可爱-oooii *杨丞琳's voice* face, long tresses, slim legs, curvey body, in revealing tight clothes (only for those with the former characteristics), in pink. Why are men so attracted to those features? The guy is lying if he says he will not turn his head when he sees women with those features. I think it has nothing to do with men being lustful or anything disgusting. It probably has something to do with the genes, the hormones. I don't believe it has to do with things like its men's nature instinct to look for partners who can reproduce blahblahblah. That's so boring! Its something mysterious, something that let men derives pleasure by just looking openly, without doing anything bad or harmful or immoral. Do women ogle at men all the time too...

Saturday Afternoon Routine.

I just got back from the Saturday tuition sessions. It has been almost 5 months since I started.I have two classes of primary school children, P4 and P3, taking Maths and Science, and English, respectively. It has become a Saturday routine. A energy-draining activity. It is somehow different from giving volunteering tuition. When you are paid, the responsibility seems greater. And if you ain't doing a good job, someone else is readily available to take up yours. The fact that I really need that money, I have to put in more effort. Some students have left, and some have joined. I'm not sure whether they left cuz they think I ain't good 'nuff for them. But there are some who seem really happy and appreciative to have me around. On my first lesson, I set the ground rules for my classes. I told them my expectations on their behavior. On boy, how naive I was. They are only nine or ten, they don't understand the significance of those rules. After a couple of lessons with ...
