I am a big fan of George Orwell after reading nineteen eighty-four. This guy is a genius. Someone out there is slowly realising the world he created in the novel.
Well from the progress of events in the turn of this century, this should be of no surprise. Fight fire with fire. Survelliance and police. One of the straight forward method to cope with chaos of the world is to systematically track everything and try to react before it happens. But what if it does not happen as they thought it will be? We have all seen the consequences. One or two innocent victims (probably many more behind cover-ups) is not going to stop them from continuing to do so. The statistics is amazing: "About 4.2 million spy cameras film each citizen 300 times a day". Talk about human rights, privacy and freedom. The only consolation for us is that it is not happening in Singapore yet. Slowly but surely, with the increasing surveillance cameras in town, and who-knows where else hidden, I will not be surprised if our authorities follow suit and we say-cheese 300 times a day too in five year's time. While the authorities uses these eyes to control the public discreetly, who control what the authorities use these information for?
I am not kidding you. Read this article on Bloomberg.
I am not here to judge whether its right or wrong. But the idea of being monitored everywhere is really scary. No matter if its visually, or our activities online. To control the small percentage of non-conformance, are we ready to sacrifice the majority? And what is the next step? Maybe its profiling every single citizen, citing the risk level of them committing some sort of crime. Eventually, reading our minds and the final step will be programming them.
No love, no sex, no orgasm. Our existence is a gift from the party.

"...The sex instinct will be eradicated. Procreation will be an annual formality like the renewal of a ration card. We shall abolish the orgasm. Our neurologists are at work upon it now. There will be no loyalty, except loyalty towards the Party. There will be no love, except the love of Big Brother. There will be no laughter, except the laugh of triumph over a defeated enemy. There will be no art, no literature, no science."
