TNBT: Istanbul to Bursa.

It was almost 6pm when we reached Istanbul International Airport, but it looked like 8pm outside. After grabbing our luggage, we quickly got ourselves into our warm clothing. The weather in Turkey is quite different from that in Dubai, an average of 7-8 degree celcius.

After asking around a few shops, we decided to abandon our initial idea of taking the metro. Instead, we took the shuttle service to the central bus station. At the otogar (Turkish for bus terminal), some folks took our bags up the bus immediately after we alighted the car. Before we knew it, we were already on the bus to Bursa (pronounced as boo-sa) - our first destination in Turkey. Along the way, a RPL ferried our bus across the Marmara Sea. On our first taste of the comprehensive Turkish Bus System, we were offered tea (or cay - pronounced as ch-ai in Turkish) and biscuits by the bus steward. Soon, we'd find out that is the standard for all long distance bus rides, similar to having drinks and meals on planes offered by the air stewardess.

At the Bursa Bus Station, we met the first friendly Turk. Turkey has a reputation for having friendly and helpful people. We just got off the long distance bus, still blur and sleepy. A young man approached us and asked where we were going. At first, we were paranoid. But soon, we found out that he sincerely wanted to help us. He spoke a little English, but tried his best to help us get the bus tickets for our next stop, Çanakkale. He even offered to send us to our hotel. But we were too paiseh to make him go all the way with us to the hotel. In the end, he wrote us the Turkish name of the street so that the taxi driver will understand.

It was probably 2-3am when we finally reached our hotel, Artic Hotel. Everything else would have to wait, time for a nice warm bath and sleep!

The Bridal Dowry.

The delivery of dowry ( 送嫁妆 ) is another important custom. It represents parent's effort for her daughter to have a good life after marriage and prepare her with the necessities for being a good wife. I am amazed by some of the things included in the dowry. Of course, in our modern living, we will not be using some of those things... Nevertheless, I think it is all good to have them, as each item carries a good meaning for our blissful marriage. :-)

If you have it, just flaunt it.

Its such a lousy day, I have decided to blog another entry. Yesh, I am thinking about things other than my last two papers on Thurs and Friday. Something probably talked alot before by many people... What is it with men and women with 可爱-oooii *杨丞琳's voice* face, long tresses, slim legs, curvey body, in revealing tight clothes (only for those with the former characteristics), in pink. Why are men so attracted to those features? The guy is lying if he says he will not turn his head when he sees women with those features. I think it has nothing to do with men being lustful or anything disgusting. It probably has something to do with the genes, the hormones. I don't believe it has to do with things like its men's nature instinct to look for partners who can reproduce blahblahblah. That's so boring! Its something mysterious, something that let men derives pleasure by just looking openly, without doing anything bad or harmful or immoral. Do women ogle at men all the time too...

Saturday Afternoon Routine.

I just got back from the Saturday tuition sessions. It has been almost 5 months since I started.I have two classes of primary school children, P4 and P3, taking Maths and Science, and English, respectively. It has become a Saturday routine. A energy-draining activity. It is somehow different from giving volunteering tuition. When you are paid, the responsibility seems greater. And if you ain't doing a good job, someone else is readily available to take up yours. The fact that I really need that money, I have to put in more effort. Some students have left, and some have joined. I'm not sure whether they left cuz they think I ain't good 'nuff for them. But there are some who seem really happy and appreciative to have me around. On my first lesson, I set the ground rules for my classes. I told them my expectations on their behavior. On boy, how naive I was. They are only nine or ten, they don't understand the significance of those rules. After a couple of lessons with ...
