"Its a mistake to come back." Overheard a conversation between young men on the bus. Reading it in the papers is not as real as hearing it yourself. Apparently they were newly returned scholars who just joined my company for less than two weeks. As they continued to complain about having to work in Singapore and raved about buying condominiums instead of staying in HDB flats, and possibilities of going overseas if they have the chance, I wondered if our government had made the right choice. Academics and leadership, what else matter? Perhaps being humble and appreciative of what the society has given them should be one of the criteria.
Of cuz, these are probably a few black sheeps. But the money and job can definitely be given to someone more deserving and less arrogant.
I suggest those who are well to do and think they are very smart and full of themselves to get scholarships from some overseas universities, instead of local government. No point regretting coming back when you feel Singapore ain't good enough for you...
I can't help but to agree with my girlfriend's remarks, "Oh its like that la. People grumble when they have something and complain unfair when they don't have." Looks like I am one from the latter group.
