Birthday 2009 Part Two.

Celebrated my birthday, yet again, today. But this time it is with my dear wife only. And it was extra special because it was the first time she celebrated for me as my wife.

Instead of grand dinner, we had grand lunch at Sumomo. It is a Japanese restaurant, along Prinsep Street, which specialises in Osaka Okonomiyaki.

Before I go on to talk about what we ate, I must say that the service was really fantastic and the food was oyishi! I am definitely going back again. :-) But it is kinda pricey tho' - not a problem when it is for birthday celebration and your wife is giving you a treat.. hahahah.

For drinks, we had the good old Japanese Iced-Milk Tea (S$6.50 per cup). Perfect way to combat the heat.

Then we started off with Sake (Salmon) Sashimi (S$20 per plate). The thick slices of fresh salmon are some of the best I have eaten so far!

We also had Yasai-itame aka stirred fried vegetables.

Of course the highlight is the okonomiyaki - a type of savoury pancake. We had the pleasure of seeing the chef cooking for us! He is a quiet guy. Hah. But his cooking is really good.

The golden brown Ebi Okonomiyaki (S$16 per plate)! Yum yum! It also come in other flavours (octopus, pork, squid, or everything together!).

Tada! The final product!

And for dessert we had matcha (green tea) + azuki (red bean) ice-cream (S$7.50 for two scoops)!

That rounds up the grand lunch. After which we watched a very disturbing movie, The Horsemen. I wasn't particularly impressed by the scene which supposedly may result in the ban of the show in China. I was really impressed by the guy (apparently not local) sitting beside me. My nose was giving the usual problem before the start of the show, due to the cold temperature in the auditorium. This guy looked for the authorities to get me a face mask! He must had been worried, with the outbreak of the N1H1 flu. How many people are actually willing to do that? I know I wouldn't be too bothered. Nevertheless, I want to applaud him for his actions. It also reminded me that if you are not feeling well, better to stay home. Even if you know you are okay, others may not know.

From one movie to a concert, The Damnation of Faust. A "concert opera" with SSO, Singapore Bible College Chorale, Hallelujah Chorus, The Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Singapore Symphony Children's Choir, Isabel Piganiol, Sune Hjerrid, Alexander Vassiliev and Julian Tovey. Luckily there were subtitles, I couldn't really tell what they were singing. But it was quite entertaining!

My dear wife, almost fell asleep. Hee. Here she is with the beautiful lanterns at the foyer of the Esplanade.

Well, the birthday celebration didn't just end there. My family celebrated for me with a cake!

Surprise surprise! The cake was the similar to that I had on Wednesday - just a bigger! Looks like everyone knows about my liking for mango. Heh heh. It is more than enough for four of us. Yay, cake for breakfast tomorrow!

The Bridal Dowry.

The delivery of dowry ( 送嫁妆 ) is another important custom. It represents parent's effort for her daughter to have a good life after marriage and prepare her with the necessities for being a good wife. I am amazed by some of the things included in the dowry. Of course, in our modern living, we will not be using some of those things... Nevertheless, I think it is all good to have them, as each item carries a good meaning for our blissful marriage. :-)

I Will Be Back With More Time.

It is more than two years since I last blogged! Not that nothing interesting happened. In fact, plenty happened! Shifted house, shifted office, boys grew, had Hand Foot Mouth Disease (ouch!)! Just to name a few. There were gains and losses. Life's ups and downs. Of me, and those around me. I haven't been doing much deep thinking and thus less writing. Not enough time? That is probably an excuse. But it is true that I have not slept well for quite awhile. It is hard to explain the stress from work, where nothing goes smooth, and every step forward is a hurdle. Technology also had made it simple and addictive for us to mindlessly share. Share our thoughts in bits and pieces. Forming persona of ourselves to acquaintances and friends I hardly meet anymore. I remember experimenting with Tumbler, finding ways to post once, publish everywhere. It didn't quite work out. Even when technology made it is so easy, I have not been diligently editing and uploading photos of my darlin

The Last 24 Hours, Twenty-Thirteen.

If you were wondering... Yes I did it for the fifth time on the eve of New Year. Just two of us, made the journey from Marina Bay Financial Centre to Kampung Glam, via the newest Downtown line. You can see my photos here . Still looking for people to join us end of this year. :)
