Terry Fox Run 2005.

The wind blew away the rubbish bin at the bus-stop, as debris was swept across the road. Then the rain started to pour in. But all that did not stop us from making our way to Palawan Beach, Sentosa, to participate in Terry Fox Run 2005. In fact, over 2000 of the 6000+ who signed up made it for the run despite the morning thunderstorm. And I think that was a remarkable feat for everyone, considering that most of us would rather be snugly tucked beneath our blankets at 8 a.m. on a Sunday morning, especially with the storm outside.

Our faith paid off as the rain stopped and the run flagged off at 8.15 a.m. as planned. The overcast and breeze made the walk (at least for my girlfriend and I) more enjoyable. It was a fun thing to do! People came with their families, some even wearing their coporate event tee (I saw a few "Team IBM", and "Johnson & Johnson"), some came as in their favourite soccer team jerseys (there was a clash between a group of Liverpool fans and a lone Man Utd fan carrying a flag). The Arsenal fans sang their songs but were quite well-behaved. The Leeds fans went around chanting and asked people why they were running. lol. Some others were obviously trying to get some attention by dressing funny (spotted two guys in long sleeve shirt, tie, and shorts). We were treated to fruit juice, bananas, and performances from Indonesia Idol at the end of the run.

The greatest highlight of the day was when I finally got to eat the Four Seasons durian mooncake (yeah, the mooncake with 100% D24 durian fillings). There were just a few boxes left at the stall in Habour Pavilion. Like all things, after all that hype and anticipation, it fell short of expectations. Perhaps we were just too anxious and did not let it thaw well...

The Bridal Dowry.

The delivery of dowry ( 送嫁妆 ) is another important custom. It represents parent's effort for her daughter to have a good life after marriage and prepare her with the necessities for being a good wife. I am amazed by some of the things included in the dowry. Of course, in our modern living, we will not be using some of those things... Nevertheless, I think it is all good to have them, as each item carries a good meaning for our blissful marriage. :-)

If you have it, just flaunt it.

Its such a lousy day, I have decided to blog another entry. Yesh, I am thinking about things other than my last two papers on Thurs and Friday. Something probably talked alot before by many people... What is it with men and women with 可爱-oooii *杨丞琳's voice* face, long tresses, slim legs, curvey body, in revealing tight clothes (only for those with the former characteristics), in pink. Why are men so attracted to those features? The guy is lying if he says he will not turn his head when he sees women with those features. I think it has nothing to do with men being lustful or anything disgusting. It probably has something to do with the genes, the hormones. I don't believe it has to do with things like its men's nature instinct to look for partners who can reproduce blahblahblah. That's so boring! Its something mysterious, something that let men derives pleasure by just looking openly, without doing anything bad or harmful or immoral. Do women ogle at men all the time too...

Saturday Afternoon Routine.

I just got back from the Saturday tuition sessions. It has been almost 5 months since I started.I have two classes of primary school children, P4 and P3, taking Maths and Science, and English, respectively. It has become a Saturday routine. A energy-draining activity. It is somehow different from giving volunteering tuition. When you are paid, the responsibility seems greater. And if you ain't doing a good job, someone else is readily available to take up yours. The fact that I really need that money, I have to put in more effort. Some students have left, and some have joined. I'm not sure whether they left cuz they think I ain't good 'nuff for them. But there are some who seem really happy and appreciative to have me around. On my first lesson, I set the ground rules for my classes. I told them my expectations on their behavior. On boy, how naive I was. They are only nine or ten, they don't understand the significance of those rules. After a couple of lessons with ...
