Wonderful First Day of Work.

I won't exactly call it a wonderful start...

Considering I was caught in a terrible jam (from upper thomson, all the way to queensway) early in the morning, and feeling urgent due to the cuppa celery juice and milo I drank. Yeah, so I was late on the first day of work, even tho' I woke up at six, and left house at six forty-five. So much for the GREAT START! *roars*

Workplace was quite pleasant. Why? There's great supply of beverages in the pantry, they even have frozen meals! Yes, free frozen meals so that we won't be hungry when we stay back to work late. hah hah. According to big big boss, its not to be taken as dinner before we leave work. The office is a "model office" in the organization, so they have adopted the "open concept". ha ha. And my desk is very strategically located but it is cluttered with three terminals (don't ask me why so many...) The moment I was really happy was when I saw this metal name tag with my name engraved on it at the desk (yes! I am finally a perm working staff!).Anyway the location of my seat is so good I think I needta get a few mirrors soon. heh heh. Look at the layout below (pardon me for the lousy and drawing.. most details are omitted cuz might be classified! ha ha...):

Now, to talk about the people. My colleagues are all very nice and friendly. From the big big boss, to the big boss, to the boss, to peers, to the new hires and out-sourced talents. All so friendly as we did our introduction one round the whole department. The new hires including me, are three guys from NTU and two ladies from NUS.

Three hours into the "wonderful first day of work" was lunch. And big boss treated us to lunch at Keppel Club! wow right? Yeah we are lucky cuz it coincides with the milestone of a project, so it was a two-in-one celebration.

There were a few more hours of admin work, reading, idling, arranging things and yadayada in the afternoon. After the big big boss talked to us, it was finally time to go back. The end of the "wonderful first day of work" at 7pm. And 1 and 1/2hrs later, I was back home happily gorging down my dinner.

Maybe I'll go for run? What run? Its two more hours before bedtime and the beginning of the "wonderful second day of work"!

thank you for the encouragements! I will work extra hard. heh heh.

btw, I left out the shared network printer in the diagram... and the side door also leads to the pantry... yeah another 2 more reasons why I'll make a fortune if I collect toll for ppl passing by my desk!

The Bridal Dowry.

The delivery of dowry ( 送嫁妆 ) is another important custom. It represents parent's effort for her daughter to have a good life after marriage and prepare her with the necessities for being a good wife. I am amazed by some of the things included in the dowry. Of course, in our modern living, we will not be using some of those things... Nevertheless, I think it is all good to have them, as each item carries a good meaning for our blissful marriage. :-)

If you have it, just flaunt it.

Its such a lousy day, I have decided to blog another entry. Yesh, I am thinking about things other than my last two papers on Thurs and Friday. Something probably talked alot before by many people... What is it with men and women with 可爱-oooii *杨丞琳's voice* face, long tresses, slim legs, curvey body, in revealing tight clothes (only for those with the former characteristics), in pink. Why are men so attracted to those features? The guy is lying if he says he will not turn his head when he sees women with those features. I think it has nothing to do with men being lustful or anything disgusting. It probably has something to do with the genes, the hormones. I don't believe it has to do with things like its men's nature instinct to look for partners who can reproduce blahblahblah. That's so boring! Its something mysterious, something that let men derives pleasure by just looking openly, without doing anything bad or harmful or immoral. Do women ogle at men all the time too...

What Do You Think?

What makes a good leader? Some will say a good leader is someone who can bring the best out of his/her people. How do you bring the best out of his/her people? Some will say by giving pointers and guidance.  How do you give pointers and guidance? Some will talk. In fact, most will just talk.  I think a good leader should be someone who walk the talk, not just talk. A good leader gets his/her hands dirty to show his/her people the way. Some may say this is spoon-feeding. I think otherwise. For example, if your staff ask you for guidance on work, most bosses would dispense some wise words, "Do this, look out for this, highlight this...". At the end of the day, the staff will come back to the bosses with the work and bosses will say, "no no, do this, not that". I would think a good leader should draft out the frame on the actual work (may it be slides or documents), then dispense his words of wisdom. The staff will do his/her thinking along that frame and f...
