Just saw the news clip on TV about pamphlets from the Suntec travel fair being littered all over the Suntec-CityLink overhead bridge. Isn't that just so typical of those few inconsiderate Singaporeans? I guess most Singaporeans will do the same as those people interviewed - dispose when they find a bin, dispose into recycle bins after they get home, or simply reject the pamplets. I personally prefer the latter method, especially when I am near the MRT stations.
The lil' more considerate Singaporeans will not throw these pamphlets everywhere, they will throw them into the rubbish bins, even when the rubbish bins are already overflowing. That is a common sight along underpasses, especially the Yishun MRT Station-Northpoint underpass. Well, at least they are making an effort right?
Yesterday, at Orchard MRT station, I was quite surprised to see the creativity of Singaporean at work, when it came to disposing rubbish. Some ingenious Singaporeans had decided to use the empty Today newspaper racks as rubbish bins. Was that a protest against the lack of rubbish bins, or was that just another act of inconsideration?
Rubbish bins ain't the only problem. I noticed this phenomenon at my workplace - most people walk into the lift, press the button on level they want to stop, and then move on to one corner of the lift. I am sure they want to let as many people into the lift as possible. But why don't the first person, or the subsequent people who walk in hold the door open? Maybe we need to employ some lift attendants (like the famous Japanese lift attendants who announce the level) if we can't do that ourselves...
Anyway back to the issue of rubbish bins, I hope the authorities will put the bins back to the stations. I remember once upon a time, I had the impression that Singapore was a place where you can find a bin nearby anywhere.
