Found time to visit the Singapore Art Museum with KC-XTT today. On exhibit were works from Chinese artist Zeng Fanzhi and precious prints from the Chalcography of the Louvre Museum. There were other works by Wang Keen, Da Wu Tang, Vincent Leow, Jason Lim and Zulkifle Mahmod, etc.
Works by Zeng... Walk
Last Supper. (Chinese-style!)
I am not expert in these art works so I will not be doing any review here... But seriously, appreciating art requires no prior experience. I was pleasantly captivated by the exhibits.
Highly recommend that you catch the "Engraving the World: The Chalcography of the Louvre Museum" exhibits. Not only that these works are original prints from the famous museum, they are very impressive too. You must be wondering what is chalcography. It is a technique of printing on paper by first etching the image on copper plates, then mixing the ink from various ingredients, apply the ink on the plates, and then pressing the plate against the paper. The images etched on the copper plates are very intricate! You will be dazzled by the fine details in the prints. It must be a very tedious process for the engravers. And the mixing of the ink also requires special technique for the right amount of each ingredient and strength to apply it on the plates. A few of the most impressive works on display were the gigantic map of Paris, Description of Egypt and Time-belt of the Celestial Globe. I was equally impressed with KC-XTT's geographical knowledge of Paris. She has been to Paris before mah.
Anyway, while going around the galleries, we found time to do some art work ourselves too. This is me finishing a painting. LOL.
And KC-XTT examining my masterpiece! ROFL.
Both of us also did some work with colour pencils on paper! Another of my masterpiece! =p
And KC-XTT's tree! She said our trees reflect our personalities. I think hers reflects her age lah. -snigger- Just JOKING!!!
She was really productive. She also did a GeorgetteChen-style sketch of bananas. She said her bananas drawings were much better when she was younger. I think it must had been a long time since she practiced. -shakes head-
Curiously, along the walls of SAM, we found these nice metallic tiles with images of animals.
The Fish,
The Cat,
The Ape,
The Tiger,
There were many more other animals tiles around. We argued whether these tiles were originally part of the building or stick on the walls by SAM. I insisted that they part of the unique deco of this old building. Until I saw lil' children placing white paper on the tiles and colouring over them to trace their images! So they were actually part of SAM's effort to get children involved in art work. =p So malu.
The day was completed with Italian gelato served in cold gondola bowls.
Yum yum! I love the mango and belgium chocs flavours! That was when I found out that KC-XTT had been to Venice before too! Ahhhhhhhh. So good! =p
